What Is Reiki?

A gentle, hands-on healing practice rooted in universal life force energy.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy healing practice that channels universal life force energy to support the body, mind, and spirit. It is a complementary wellness modality used alongside — never in place of — traditional medical or mental health care.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese characters: Rei, meaning universal or spiritual wisdom, and Ki, meaning life force energy. Together, Reiki translates as “spiritually guided life force energy.”

During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body, allowing this gentle, supportive energy to flow where it is most needed. Clients remain fully clothed and simply rest, breathe, and receive.

Reiki does not require belief to be effective. Many clients describe sessions as a deep exhale for the nervous system — a return to a softer, more grounded version of themselves.

Benefits of Reiki

Whole-being support for emotional, mental, physical, energetic, and spiritual well-being.

Reiki meets you wherever you are. Its benefits often unfold gently, both in the hours after a session and over time with continued practice.

Emotional

Eases anxiety, grief, and overwhelm; supports a softer, more open heart.

Mental

Quiets racing thoughts, restores focus, and invites clarity and perspective.

Physical

Supports relaxation, restful sleep, tension release, and the body's own healing rhythms.

Energetic

Clears stagnant energy, restores balance, and strengthens your overall energy field.

Spiritual

Deepens self-connection, intuition, and a felt sense of being held by something greater.

Online Reiki Energy Healing

Virtual Reiki sessions from the comfort of your own space.

Energy is not limited by distance. Online Reiki sessions allow you to receive a full, restorative healing experience from anywhere — using the same intention, presence, and energetic connection as in-person sessions.

A virtual Reiki session is scheduled like any other appointment. At your chosen time, you settle into a quiet, comfortable space at home — lying down, wrapped in a blanket, with gentle music or silence. We connect briefly by phone or video to set an intention.

During the session, energy is sent through focused intention, breath, and the Reiki symbols used for distance healing. You simply rest and receive while the energy supports your body, mind, and spirit.

After the session, we reconnect briefly to share any insights, images, or sensations that arose. Many clients find virtual Reiki just as powerful as in-person work — and deeply convenient.

How Reiki Therapy Works

What to expect before, during, and after your session.

A Reiki session is a sacred pause. You arrive, you settle, and you are gently supported as the energy moves through and around you. There is nothing you need to do or perform.

Before: We begin with a short conversation about what brought you in, anything present in your body, mind, or heart, and any intention you would like to set. You remain fully clothed throughout the session.

During: You rest on a heated table (or in your own space for virtual sessions). Hands are placed lightly on or above the body in a traditional series of positions. Many clients experience warmth, tingling, gentle pulses, colors, deep relaxation, emotional release, or simply restful sleep.

After: Integration time is built in. You may journal, sip water, and ease back into your day. It is common to feel lighter, clearer, and more grounded for hours and days following a session.

Origin of Reiki

A lineage that begins with Mikao Usui in early 20th-century Japan.

Reiki as we know it today was developed in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui, a Japanese spiritual seeker whose practice and revelation became the foundation of the Usui Reiki lineage now carried by practitioners around the world.

After years of study, meditation, and contemplation, Mikao Usui underwent a profound spiritual experience on Mount Kurama in Japan, where he received the system of Reiki — including the symbols, attunement process, and method of channeling universal life force energy for healing.

Usui taught Reiki throughout Japan and passed the system to a small group of students, most notably Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Hayashi later taught Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to Hawaii and the broader Western world, where it has continued to grow and evolve.

Today, Reiki is offered alongside medical care in hospitals, hospices, and wellness centers worldwide — while still carrying the same spiritual roots and reverence with which it was first taught.

Reiki Training & Attunements

Walk the Reiki path from Level 1 through Master Teacher.

Reiki is not only a healing modality you receive — it is a practice you can be initiated into and carry with you for life. Each level of training opens new layers of connection, capability, and responsibility.

Reiki Level 1 — Shoden: The First Degree. Energy channels are opened so you can begin practicing Reiki on yourself, loved ones, animals, and the spaces you live in.

Reiki Level 2 — Okuden: The Second Degree. You receive the sacred Reiki symbols and learn how to send distance healing across space and time, as well as work with mental and emotional patterns.

Reiki Level 3 — Shinpiden: The Third Degree (Advanced Practitioner). You receive the Master symbol and step into a deeper, more refined relationship with Reiki for personal mastery and professional client work.

Reiki Master Teacher: The full teaching path. You learn how to perform attunements and initiate others into Levels 1, 2, and 3 — carrying the lineage forward as a certified Reiki Master Teacher.
